Probably the best thing about this meter is the button located on the red lead that initiates the insulation tests. Without it, you would have to hold the test lead in one hand, and simultaneously hold the meter and press the button with the other hand.

We have had the Fluke 1587 for about one month. This new unit complements the Fluke 1520 we've had. The Fluke 1520 is now obsolete and is replaced by the 1587. The Fluke 1520 has given us years of service and is still going strong. Due to using the 1520 more and more each day prompted us to add the Fluke 1587. The extra features of the 1587 are great.
